Indiana State Police told NBC affiliate WPTA the two were last seen on Sept. 19 and reported missing to the Richmond Police Department.

Volunteers were cleaning up the river Friday afternoon on the edge of downtown Fort Wayne when they found the remains in the water near Guldlin Park. The coroner determined Dixon died by strangulation and suffocation, while Johnson died from a gunshot wound and stab wound.
