With October only a few days away, EEE remains a threat in the Bay State. That’s the message from health officials after another horse in Massachusetts tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

BOSTON (WWLP) – Massachusetts health officials report a third case of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in a horse this year. According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), the horse was exposed in Carver, an area already at high risk for EEE.
DATCP confirms horse in Marathon Co. tests positive for EEE virus
It is the state’s first confirmed case of EEE in a horse this year. DATCP has not had a reported case of EEE in Wisconsin since 2021, but cases have been reported in other states this year. EEE and West Nile Virus are viruses that can cause inflammation of the brain (encephalitis).
