A former member of the Defence Forces ’ elite Army Ranger Wing who was killed while fighting Russian forces in Ukraine had previously lost an eye in an explosion following an attack there.

A former member of the Defence Forces has died while fighting in Ukraine. The man was in his 20s, had served as a soldier in the Army and was from Newbridge in County Kildare. He died last Thursday while retreating from an area of Ukraine which had come under attack from Russian forces.
