Former Racine soldier Travis King, who crossed into North Korea last year, pleaded guilty Friday to five charges.

Travis King, the Army private who dashed into North Korea from South Korea in 2023, has pled guilty to desertion and other charges. King had been court-martialed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and he took a plea deal to avoid nine additional charges.

King, who fled to North Korea last year, was given a year in prison, but released for time served by a military judge.
