“The suspect fled from the scene after striking the trooper, and then continued his flight on foot, and was apprehended by the Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies a short distance from the scene,” DPS Lt. Craig Cummings said about Jose Rico.

The state trooper was standing outside of his vehicle talking to a driver during a routine stop, when the suspected drunk driver hit him, DPS said.
