The United Auto Workers union announced that workers at Ford Motor Company's River Rouge tool and die unit have reached a tentative agreement.

The deal strengthens job security protections and provides skilled trades workers wage parity, according to the union.

The United Auto Workers union announced on Wednesday that members at Ford Motor Company's River Rouge tool and die unit will go on strike on Sept. 26 if an agreement is not reached.

The United Auto Workers have issued a strike notice at Ford’s River Rouge Tool & Die Unit over local agreement issues, including job security, wage parity, and work rules.

More than a year has passed since the contract deadline for the local agreement between the Dearborn automaker and the unit of more than 500 workers.

Ford's Rouge Complex near Detroit, which employs about 6,000 workers, has more than 500 workers in the tool and die unit, according to the union.

The UAW Local 600's Tool & Die Unit at the Rouge Complex announced it has reached a tentative agreement with Ford Motor Company. The roughly 500 UAW members at the Dearborn facility will hold a ratification vote in the next few days after reviewing the agreement.
